JCPS to Kick Off Celebrate Languages Week

Activities to highlight benefits of second language learners
March 23, 2017—Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) will host its first Celebrate Languages Week beginning March 27, highlighting the benefits of students who speak different languages learning alongside each other.

With more than 130 languages spoken by students in JCPS, an average school day can sound like a symphony of speech. That blend of voices is music to the ears of Eli Beardsley, the district’s English as a Second Language (ESL) coordinator.

JCPS Students Receive Free Health Screenings Through Special Olympics

About 230 JCPS students with disabilities to receive free sports physicals, other medical screenings at MedFest Health Fair

October 24, 2016 – About 230 students with disabilities from Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) will receive free sports physicals and other medical screenings as part of the MedFest Health Fair, hosted by Special Olympics Kentucky.  The student screenings will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27 at the Brown and Williamson Club at Papa John’s Stadium, 2800 S Floyd St.

More than 1,000 Seniors Sign Commitments to Earn Their Degrees

April 22, 2016 – More than 1,000 college-bound seniors in Jefferson County have been recognized for their commitment to go to college and earn a degree. The students were honored today at the College Signing Day 2016 celebration held at the KFC Yum! Center. This is the second year that Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS), the KFC Yum! Center and 55,000 Degrees – Louisville’s higher education movement – have teamed up to host the event, which is held in association with First Lady Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher initiative.

JCPS launches district’s first school-based health-care clinic

The Academy @ Shawnee today cut the ribbon on the district’s first school-based health clinic, improving student and staff access to comprehensive health services while reducing absences from school.

Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) partnered with Shawnee Christian Healthcare Center (SCHC) to open the Wellness Center @ Shawnee, which operates inside the school building. The clinic will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, and is available to all Academy students and staff.
