Most JCPS students are eligible to receive free meals.
- All students at these schools are eligible for meals at no cost through Community Eligibility (CE). An Educational Benefits Form should be completed if you have children attending these schools.
- These nine schools are not CE but many students who attend them may be eligible for free meals. Fill out this application to determine if your child is eligible for free or reduced-price meals. You may fill out an application online or at various JCPS locations.
- If you have children attending both types of schools, complete this application.
- If you have Pre-K students, please complete this application.
Households must complete a new application each school year. Applications are available in six different languages online at MySchoolApps or by clicking directly on the links below:

All other questions about school meals and nutrition should also be directed to (502) 485-6237.
The map approved by our JCPS Board of Education to determine our COVID-19 protocols lists Jefferson County as being in the red, signaling high community transmission rates. This triggered JCPS’ universal masking policy to take effect on July 25, 2022. Everyone entering a JCPS building or bus will be required to mask until the Monday after Jefferson County is no longer listed in the red. JCPS will update you on the district’s masking status at the end of each week.
Masks will be available for students, employees, and visitors who do not have their own.
JCPS’ current mask policy, which follows CDC guidance, was approved by the Board in March 2022. The board voted to continue the same mask policy when it updated JCPS Health Guidelines Tuesday, July 19, 2022.
Information about JCPS’ Test to Play and Test to Stay programs along with Quarantining and Contact Tracing can also be found in the JCPS Health Guidelines.
Any student or staff with proper consent may be tested by school health services staff. When available, At-Home tests will be provided to students and staff who choose to do weekly screening testing. When available, At Home tests can be provided to family members living in the household of COVID-positive students and staff.
To participate in this testing, students must have a consent form on file. Parents or guardians can access the form online.
Do you know what time school starts for your child? At most JCPS elementary schools, the hours are 9:05 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. At most middle and high schools, hours are 7:40 a.m. to 2:20 p.m.
Have you confirmed your child’s transportation arrangements? If your child is walking or biking, have you discussed safety precautions regarding traffic and strangers? If your child is riding a bus, have you talked about safety issues and behavior expectations?
Have you talked to your child about following the mask guidelines on school busses and inside school buildings to help minimize the spread of COVID-19 in their school?
Has your child developed any health problems that will affect his or her school day? If so, have you notified school staff? If your child needs to take medication at school, have you made arrangements?
Have you checked with the school about the supplies your child will need? Here is a list of the basic supplies students will need.
Do you know if your child’s school has a dress code? Will your child need different clothes for physical education or art classes?
Have you established an earlier bedtime to help your child get back on an in-school schedule, including time to get to school?
Have you signed up with the district’s School Messenger alert system so you will receive emergency notifications and other important information? Have you signed up for SchoolCNXT to receive updates from your child’s school?
JCPS schools and administration do our best to keep families informed, but we need your contact information. Let your child's school know the easiest ways to contact you in case of emergency, to share information about your child's academics and to receive e-newsletters and importation information updates from JCPS.
JCPS is required to provide 175 days of instruction to its students. The first day of the 2022-23 school year is August 10 and the last is scheduled to be May 26. Here is the complete 2022-23 School Calendar.
