September 16, 2021 — Thirty-eight seniors in Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) have been named National Merit Semifinalists for 2022, the National Merit Scholarship Program announced this week. The National Merit Scholarship Program recognizes students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies. High school students qualify through scores on the 2020 Preliminary SAT/ National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.  The nationwide pool of semifinalists represents less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

Semifinalists are in contention to advance to the finalist level. That group of finalists will compete for one of 2,500 National Merit scholarships, as well as other corporate- and college and university-sponsored scholarships.  National Merit Scholarship winners will be announced beginning in April 2022.
