“Dr. DeFerrari is a trustworthy, experienced, and respected leader who has strong relationships with district staff at all levels,” said Pollio. “Her background as an assistant superintendent and priority school principal gives her valuable insights into the complexities of JCPS and the ability to pivot to meet and conquer new challenges. I have no doubt Dr. DeFerrari will help us move our strategic plan forward.”

As chief of staff, DeFerrari will provide direct support to the superintendent and provide strategic leadership to advance key district priorities.

“I am honored to have this opportunity to foster and support Dr. Pollio’s vision and the district’s strategic and Future State planning,” said DeFerrari. “Our teachers and administrators depend on district-level support now more than ever. I will ensure coherence and effective collaboration between levels and departments to maintain safe and productive learning environments. I look forward to providing the necessary support to help drive our Six Systems, Three Pillars, and the strategies that support the success of JCPS.”

DeFerrari has worked for JCPS for more than two decades. She started her career with JCPS as a teacher at Ballard High School. She was principal at Waggener High School for five years before being promoted to assistant superintendent of Culture and Climate in 2016. In her most recent role, DeFerrari collaborated with district leadership to address school safety and violence prevention. She also facilitated the implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) to increase engagement, reduce disproportionate outcomes for students of color, build teacher efficacy at the Tier I level, and contribute to the Teacher Backpack design.

DeFerrari’s first day as chief of staff will be Monday, February 20.
