Cheryl Rigsby, long-time principal at Fern Creek Elementary, announced today that she will retire.
Retirement Effective May 1, 2016
March 30, 2016 – Cheryl Rigsby, long-time principal at Fern Creek Elementary School, announced today that she will be retiring from the Jefferson County Public School (JCPS) District on May 1 because of personal reasons. She is retiring after serving 29 years as an educator.
She started her career in Indiana and then served as a highly skilled educator with the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) for three years assisting priority schools in their turn-around efforts. For the past 11 years, she has served as the principal of Fern Creek Elementary School. Rigsby was named Principal of the Year in 2014-15 by the Jefferson County Association of School Administrators.
She is most proud of the advancements in student achievement during her tenure and the relationships she’s formed with her students and their families.
“This was a difficult decision for me, but for very personal reasons, the time is right to turn a page on this new chapter in my life,” Rigsby said. “I will always be a supporter of JCPS and am proud of the education we provide to all students. Fern Creek Elementary will remain a large part of my heart, and I will never forget the students, staff and families who’ve become an integral part of my life.”
An interim principal for Fern Creek Elementary will be appointed by the district. Assistant Superintendent Michelle Dillard will be working with the school to ensure a smooth transition for the testing period and end of the school year.
