JCPS to Offer Multiple Summer Learning Opportunities

Interactive, engaging programs will help students grow academically, socially

April 20, 2021 – Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) will offer multiple opportunities this summer for students to gain supplemental learning through interactive, student-centered activities.

The programs will engage students from Pre-K through 12th grade in meaningful learning experiences to provide them with opportunities to grow academically, socially, emotionally and behaviorally.

“Without a doubt, the last year has been a tremendous challenge for our students in terms of academics as well as socialization,” said JCPS Superintendent Dr. Marty Pollio.  “We must provide opportunities like never before to address a year unlike anything we’ve ever had in the past. These summer learning opportunities will provide powerful, personalized, interactive instruction in a variety of formats to appeal to many student interests, and help prepare them for the next school year.”

JCPS will partner with community organizations including Evolve502 to develop and implement the various camps and experiences. Summer learning options will have a strong emphasis on literacy and numeracy skills, as well as supports for social and emotional health.  Programs will also provide a variety of enrichment experiences for students to discover a new interest or talent.

The camps are available to all JCPS students, with priority given to pupils most in need of the additional support.

Summer learning options will include three main areas:

  • Backpack League, which will offer students in first through 12th grade an in-person experience
  • Summer League, where students will learn virtually and earn points to make it onto our leaderboard.
  • Specialized Camps, which will fit the unique interests and needs of our students.

Summer options are also open to the district’s youngest learners. New this year, Camp Jumpstart will focus on social-emotional development and adaptive skills for current 3-year-old students in the district’s early childhood program. And JCPS will bring back the successful Camp Ready for K, to help prepare up to 1,600 students start kindergarten in the fall.

Registration information will be available soon.
