JCPS Offering Spring Break Camps to Students Next Week

For Immediate Release March 30, 2016

March 30, 2016 – From chess to the culinary arts, students in kindergarten through fifth-grade will have an opportunity to learn fun and challenging activities next week during the Jefferson County Public School (JCPS) District’s Spring Break Camps.

The camps are part of the “Literacy &” Program and provide a fun and safe environment for students while school is out.  The “Literacy &” Program connects literacy instruction to character-building opportunities using grade-level appropriate books with themes connected to each program.

Each camp will feature a different theme of exciting and character-building activities that include aquatics, chess, culinary arts, karate, photography, robotics and yoga.

“One of our district’s key goals as part of the Vision 2020 strategic plan focuses on comprehensive strategies that provide the deeper learning necessary to prepare, empower and inspire all students to reach their full potential, and our JCPS Spring Break Camps help play a critical role in that effort,” JCPS Superintendent Dr. Donna Hargens said. “These camps empower our students to learn a new activity, while simultaneously strengthening literacy skills and building character.”

The Spring Break Camps will be held from April 4 to April 8, and camp hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. To register a child for a Spring Break Camp, parents may call 502-485-3639.
