JCPS releases details of final Corrective Action Plan with Kentucky Department of Education

The corrective action plan is required as part of the settlement between the district and the state

September 19, 2018 — Jefferson County Public Schools released details of its final Corrective Action Plan with the Kentucky Department of Education on Wednesday.

The plan, which will also be shared with the Jefferson County Board of Education on Tuesday, Sept. 25, contains action steps that will be addressed and monitored over the next two years.

Superintendent Marty Pollio noted on Wednesday that district staff has spent significant time over the past three weeks working with KDE staff to develop the corrective action plan, which is required as part of the settlement reached between the district and the state last month that avoids a takeover of the district.

The corrective action plan addresses the deficiencies outlined in state's 2017 audit of the district.

"Now that the final plan has been put together, we are eager to begin the implementation phase," Pollio said. "We are confident that we can implement the plan and correct the deficiencies as a district in the time allotted by the agreement."

He added that much of the work outlined in the final Corrective Action Plan has been ongoing.

The settlement states that KDE will audit the district again in 2020 and until the conclusion of that audit, the superintendent will provide a monthly written and oral report to the commissioner and the superintendent or his designee will appear in person to provide a report to the Kentucky Board of Education at its regularly scheduled bi-monthly meetings.
