Monica Hunter Named New Principal at Frost Sixth Grade and Stuart Academies

Hunter has been with the district since 2007.

Monica Hunter will lead both Frost Sixth Grade Academy and Stuart Academy in her new role as principal. She joins the Frost-Stuart team after serving as an assistant principal at Iroquois High School for more than a year.

“The AIS office is thrilled to continue to work with Dr. Hunter,” JCPS Assistant Superintendent of Accelerated Improvement Schools Dr. Nathan Meyer said. “She has distinguished herself as a teacher, goal clarity coach, and assistant principal in the district and will be an exceptional principal. She joins a committed staff and leadership team at Frost and Stuart and we are excited about the direction of the school.”

Hunter has spent nearly 15 years in education, dedicating her entire career to Jefferson County Public Schools. She started with the district in 2007 and taught English Language Arts at Noe Middle School. Hunter moved over to Frederick Law Olmsted Academy South in 2015 to work as goal clarity and instructional coach. She spent four years there before taking on the assistant principal role at J.B. Atkinson Academy. Hunter became an assistant principal at Iroquois High School in February 2020.

“I am truly honored to be selected as the new principal of Frost/Stuart Academies,” Hunter said. “My vision for the campus is to cultivate an equitable culture for learning while students productively struggle to reach and even surpass grade level standards.  In addition, our campus will be one with an inviting, welcoming, and safe climate where all students, staff and families are proud to call home. Finally, I envision a strong sense of community and belonging as we open our doors to community leaders and partners.  It truly takes a village!”

Hunter earned her bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University and a master’s degree from the University of Louisville. She will complete her doctorate in educational leadership this August from University of the Cumberlands.

Hunter starts her new position Monday, August 2.
