PRP Student Wins State Derby Poster Contest

Jackson Penna is the first-ever student winner

Jackson Penna, a junior at Pleasure Ridge Park High School, is the first-ever student winner of the Kentucky Governor and First Lady’s Derby Poster Contest.

Earlier this year, First Lady Glenna Bevin’s office offered an opportunity for high school students to design the 2017 Kentucky Derby poster to be displayed in the state Capitol. Typically, professionals have been chosen to create the annual poster. This year, students throughout the Commonwealth were invited to offer their own rendering of what they think Derby Day looks like.

In addition to this recognition, Penna has also received other awards for his artwork. After graduation, Penna plans to join the Marine Corps.

Olivia Nisbet, a senior at Pleasure Ridge Park High School, was named a finalist in this year’s contest.
