Registration Now Underway for JCPS Spring Break Camps

Camps give students opportunities to learn photography, robotics and more

Third- through fifth-graders in Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) will have an opportunity over spring break to learn fun and challenging activities while strengthening their reading skills during the District’s “Literacy &” camps.

The free camps combine reading with character-building activities such as chess, karate, hip-hop, photography and robotics. Registration is now underway and space is available for up to 30 students at each of the five locations listed below.

“Learning doesn’t stop when the bell rings,” JCPS Superintendent Dr. Donna Hargens said. “What better way to keep students engaged over spring break than with a fun, safe experience that not only sharpens their reading skills, but also lets their creativity shine. Let the learning continue!”

“Our ‘Lit &’ initiative is just one in a battery of programs that we’ve developed and launched to keep students engaged and on a successful path,” said JCPS Chief Equity Officer Dr. John Marshall, whose Office of Diversity, Equity and Poverty Programs coordinates the camps. “For many of the students who participate in our camps, they may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience karate, get a lesson in hip-hop or learn photography from a professional photographer. It’s important to make those experiences accessible to our students.”

The camps will be held from April 3 to April 7, and camp hours are from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. To register a child for a camp, families may call 502-485-3631.
