Sarah Williams was selected as the new principal of Luhr Elementary School by the school's site-based decision making council on Wednesday evening.

Williams has spent her 15-year career in Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) at Luhr. She was a classroom teacher for five years and then spent two years working as a resource teacher. She was promoted to assistant principal in 2012.

She will replace Lynley Schroering, who retired from the district on Dec. 31. Retired district administrator has been serving as interim principal.

"Mrs. Williams began her career as an educator as a student teacher at Luhr and has continued to serve the school for the past 15 years," said Paige Hartstern, an assistant superintendent for elementary schools. "She is a passionate, committed educator who is focused on how to best support the school community while fostering a collaborative learning environment. We look forward to this exciting new chapter for the students, staff, parents and the tremendous community that Luhr Elementary serves."

Williams said she is excited to begin her new role and is looking forward to maximizing student engagement and learning experiences.

"I am so proud to be a member of this school and I am honored to be selected as the new principal," she said. "I want everyone to know what an extraordinary place this is."

Williams said she feels it is critical for a school to build connections with all their stakeholders. She has already coordinated monthly staff lunches, team building activities and gotten to know each staff member on an individual basis.

"I have also built relationships with our nearby community members, having forged relationships with the mayor of Hollow Creek and the Highview Fire Department," she said. "I feel these connections help to build our overall school community and let every stakeholder feel connected with our school, thus solidifying everyone’s role in our students’ success."

Williams earned her bachelor's degree in communication and her master's degree in teaching from the University of Louisville.
