Sean Russell Named New Principal at Lowe Elementary

Russell has more than a decade in education, dedicating his entire career to JCPS

It may be a new school for Sean Russell, but the title of principal is a familiar one for him. Russell is joining the team at Lowe after spending the last three years leading Watson Lane Elementary.

“Mr. Russell’s enthusiasm and energy coupled with effective leadership will continue to enhance Lowe’s student-centered school culture,” JCPS Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Zone 3 Joe Leffert said.  “Sean values all stakeholders and brings a wealth of experience to the job.”

Russell has more than a decade in education, dedicating his entire career to JCPS. He started as a teacher at Stonestreet Elementary in 2009 and became the assistant principal in 2015. Russell moved on to Watson Lane Elementary in 2017 and has served as the principal there since.

“I am very grateful to the Watson Lane community for their support during my tenure as principal,” Russell said.  “I have been fortunate to be a part of the Watson Lane family and will cherish the relationships I built.  I know that Watson Lane will continue the great work that has been set in motion.”

Making the transition to Lowe Elementary may be a move across the county, but Russell promises his well-known energy, enthusiasm, and passion for creating a culture of achievement will travel with him.

“It is a great honor to be named the new principal of Lowe Elementary,” Russell said. “As the new principal, I’m most excited to meet all of the staff members, students, and families that make Lowe Elementary a great place of learning.  I look forward to joining Lowe’s thriving community and its tradition of excellence.”

Russell earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Evansville and a master’s degree and education specialist degree from the University of the Cumberlands.

A start date for Russell has not been determined.
