WATCH D.O.G.S. Help Tie Students to Leadership

Initiative underscores the value of positive male role models in students’ lives

A group of dads participating in the JCPS Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) program recently donated neckties and taught the boys at Mill Creek Elementary School how to tie them. The WATCH D.O.G.S. initiative encourages fathers, grandfathers and other father figures to volunteer at least one day at their child’s school.

“I just hope that this is something that they remember for the rest of their lives,” said Melvyn Little, a business owner who participates in the program. “I hope they have the opportunity to tell their families that they went to school today and not only learned from an academic standpoint, but were also mentored by some very positive role models.”

The event, called “Help Tie a Boy to Leadership,” was held to help build self-esteem in students and develop positive role models.
