Westport Middle School Rock N’ Warhawks Create Thriller Video

Halloween video features students dancing and playing electric instruments

October 31, 2016 – A talented group of Jefferson County Public School (JCPS) seventh and eighth graders is in the Halloween spirit. Members of the Westport Middle School Rock N’ Warhawks, the school’s electric orchestra, have created a video of themselves performing Michael Jackson’s classic “Thriller” music video.

The music video, which was choreographed and produced by Westport Director of Orchestras Cory Zilisch, features students dancing and playing a variety of electric instruments.

“I strive to be innovative in creating meaningful musical experiences for my students,” Zilisch said. “My goal is to create a lifelong appreciation of music, and our electric orchestra is just one more way to inspire students.”

As a member of the Rock N’ Warhawks, students get to explore improvisation and modern music techniques. The students also learn how to operate an electronic sound system. The orchestra has even had the opportunity to perform with Grammy-winning electric violinist Mark Wood, a founding member of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
