The Jefferson County Board of Education (JCBE) met Tuesday, January 19, 2021 to hear an update on the district’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including discussion of a possible back-to-classroom timeline, vaccinations for JCPS employees and the status of winter athletics.
- No determination has been made on when students may return to in-person classes. JCPS will continue to monitor rates of infection and evaluate other metrics in collaboration with local, state and national health officials to assess when students and staff can safely return to the classroom. When in-person classes resume, families can continue lessons online through a virtual learning option.
- State health officials have said educators will be included in the next phase of COVID-19 vaccinations. 14,784 JCPS employees responded to the survey about the COVID-19 vaccine. Of those responding, 12,884 JCPS employees requested the vaccine when it becomes available, while 1,900 declined. Those who did not respond to the survey are counted as declining the vaccine.

- The vaccine will be administered at a drive-through clinic at Broadbent Arena, with a similar event held 21-28 days later for the booster. Vaccines will begin with staff who work with primary students, and doses are proposed to be allotted in grade-level order. For more information on how that vaccination clinic would work, watch here.
- The board voted to allow practices for high school winter athletics to begin on Wednesday, January 20. Games will being on Monday, February 1.
