Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) -- in partnership with the National Center for Families Learning -- is encouraging parents, guardians and primary caregivers of all district students to apply to participate on the JCPS Parent Advisory Council.

"We are looking for one parent representative from each of our schools," said Chrystal Hawkins, a parent & family engagement specialist for JCPS. "Each of these parents will work with a Family Engagement Leads at the school."

She added: "Together, they will lead their school’s family engagement team and plan activities for families as well as communicate key information with stakeholders about family engagement efforts."

The PAC provides opportunities to build leadership and employability skills while working together to make powerful change in the educational results of students.

Participants can earn a monthly micro-credential and receive a $75 stipend for the assignments completed. A certificate of completion will be awarded at the end of the school year to participants who earn all seven micro-credentials. The expectations for PAC representatives are to:

  • Attend scheduled PAC meetings
  • Share new ideas and information with your school community
  • Serve as a leader to other families in your school
  • Share ideas with other PAC representatives
  • Gain leadership skills
  • Complete assigned activities to earn a $75 stipend each month

Each month, sessions will be offered on a Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. or a Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. to noon. PAC representatives are required to select only one of those options based on which is most convenient. The same material will be presented on both days. A light meal will be served in the first 30 minutes of the session.
