  1. What are the professional development requirements for classified INSTRUCTIONAL support staff?
    1. All classified instructional support staff are required to earn a specified number of professional development hours each school year.
    2. Instructional support staff would include instructional assistants, Instructors I, II & III, bilingual instructors/associates, educational interpreters, full-time adult education instructors or any other classified employee who works in an instructional capacity.
    3. Full-time Early Childhood assistants and bus monitors who work less than 182 days must earn 18 hours of professional development each year.   The 18 hours of professional development will be provided by the Early Childhood department during the regular work year.
    4. All other full-time classified instructional support staff are required to earn 24 hours of professional development each year.
    5. Part-time classified instructional support staff must earn 12 hours of professional development credit each year.   
       
  2. What are the professional development requirements for classified NON-INSTRUCTIONALsupport staff?
    1. Classified non-instructional support staff in other job categories may be required to attend job –specific training to enhance their skills or acquire new ones.  The type of training is called Job Enhancement Training (JET).   JET hours can be earned when the non-instructional employee attends a training session during regular working hours.
    2. If the JET training is required by the building principal/cost center head and it occurs outside of the regular work day, the hour earned are compensable, not an exchange for time off on Flex Days.
    3. Classified non-instructional support staff would include all job categories that do not provide instruction to students.   The state mandate for the acquisition of professional development hours does not apply to employees in the non-instructional job categories.
    4. The JET hours are different from the PD hours with respect to the state mandate and flexible professional development days. For PD hours, those who are mandated can earn them in advance of the flex day and be off on that day. If they don’t earn them in advance, they must attend professional development.
    5. Those who are not mandated to earn PD hours MUST report to their regular work location if it is a paid work day in their Working Calendar.
       
  3. Are classified subs required to complete the 24 hour professional developmentrequirements?
    If they are under contract, yes. If they are not under contract, then there is no requirement to earn professional development hours.
  4. What is the deadline for completing professional development hours? 
    Professional development must be earned on or before the designated Flex Days offered by the district. The last day to earn PD credit is May 26th 2016.
  5. Can classified instructional support personnl receive professional development credit for earning college credit hours?
    No. The district does not award professional development credit for earned hours of college credit
  6. Are classified instructional support personnel allowed to receive stipend pay for training on the same days in which they receive credit for professional development?
    No. This would be double compensation for the same day.
  7. How many credits can classified instructional support personnel earn for attending a conference?
    The district will grant twelve (12) hours per year for conference participation on non-duty time. Conference participation must be pre-approved by the supervisor and/or the school professional development committee. A certificate of attendance must be submitted with the proposal form.
  8. Is professional development credit earned on GOLD Days?
    No. Gold Days are paid work days and therefore professional development credit is not granted.
  9. What if someone arrives late for a session?
    Participants who arrive more than 15 minutes late to a session will not be permitted to enter the session. 
  10. What if someone leaves early when attending a session?
    Participants are expected to attend the entire length of the session. If a participant chooses to leave a session early, credit and/or stipend hours will be adjusted accordingly.
  11. Are children or animals allowed at professional development session?
    Due to liability issues, children are not allowed at professional development sessions.   Animals are not allowed a professional development sessions.   Exception: Service Animals.  Participants who bring children or animals to professional development sessions will be asked to leave.
  12. How many hours do I need if I return from medical leave during the school year or I’m hired after the school year begins?
    Professional development hours are prorated when one begins the year late or has to go on medical leave within the school year. 
  13. I have completed my evaluation, but it still doesn’t show that I have gotten credit for the course. What is the problem? Who do I need to call? 
    Courses will show up in pdCentral as “potential credit” until the evaluation has been completed and the facilitator has verified the attendance.  Once both are done it will change to earned credit.   Contact the facilitator if these are questions regarding attendance.

  1. How do I register for a session on pdCentral?
    Searching & Registering for a Session note:  Employees cannot register for a session 24 hours before the session starts.
    1. Log on to pdCentral.
    2. Go to your Home Page in pdCentral.
    3. Click on Search & Register to view all sessions (on top right side of the screen).
    4. Optional, you can enter various search criteria and click Search.
    5. Click on Session Code # or Session Title for the session of choice.
    6. View the Session Summary.
      note: Canceled sessions will be indicated at “bottom of screen” and in the “Seats Available” column.
    7. Click on drop-down box (bottom of screen) and select a credit option. 
      Participants may make changes to their credit/stipend options up to 24 hours before the start time of the session.
    8. Click on Register (next to drop-down box).
    9. A pop-up box will appear, click OK to confirm registration.
    10. A pop-up box will appear that confirms your registration was successful. Click OK to confirm.note:  Employees will receive an email confirming they have successfully registered. 
       
  2. How can I register if I am a “new hire” and I don’t have a user ID or password? 
    Contact the MIS Help desk at 3552 to see if you can get an ID and password.  Attend as a walk-in and show up at the location and sign in to see if space is available.
     
  3. What does it mean if I register for the wait list?  
    Not all sessions have a wait list.   The wait list is used when a session is full.   If participant’s name is on the wait list, and additional seats become available, the participant will automatically be added to the class.
     
  4. Can I change my credit option after I have already registered for the session? 
    Participants may change their credit option up to 24 hours before the session begins.
     
  5. How do I search for sessions on pdCentral that are offered on flexible professional days?  
    Search by the day and by the location at Seneca High School.
     
  6. How do I know if I have any evaluations to complete? 
    Check Pending Evaluations on your pdCentral Home Page.  
     
  7. How long do I have to complete the evaluations after the sessions have ended?  
    Evaluations should be done promptly after a session has been completed. Pending evaluations will remain in that status until June 30th. Your credit will not be earned until the evaluation is complete.
     
  8. How do I check on receiving my stipend if I selected that credit option on pdCentral? 
    Contact the provider of the session for questions regarding stipend.
     
  9. What happens if I forget to “unregister” for a session?
    The session will remain on your pdCentral record until it drops off after June 30th.
     
  10. How do I check my credit history on pdCentral? 
    Go to your Home Page on pdCentral. Click on View Credit History, select the academic year, and click View Report.   
     
  11. Can I still view my credit history from past academic years?   
    Yes. After clicking on View Credit History from the pdCentral Home Page, select a past academic year from the list on the drop down box.

Sessions will be closed 15 minutes after the session begins. Participants must remain until the end of their session to receive full credit for that session.
