The success of the program is attributed to a tailored transition curriculum, taught by adult education instructors, as well as using a common data system, maintaining monthly communication meetings, and continually evaluating and adapting the program as needs change. Because EES classes are tax-payer funded, students benefit from about $247,842 in annual tuition savings (collectively for the 562 EES students served in 2015).
The students in the EES Program persist at rates that exceed the average community college student. In 2014:

- 89 percent of EES students with 12 or more hours completed the course.
- 57 percent of EES students were eligible to move to the next course or higher.
- 15 percent of EES students skipped one or more developmental courses, saving a semester for each level skipped.
EES classes follow the college schedule in both time and structure to provide a seamless transition into postsecondary coursework. Most students are enrolled in EES and JCTC classes simultaneously. All classes are held on the college campus and maintain a syllabus. Instructors are paid by Kentucky Adult Education, and facilities are provided by the college.
