James Craig was elected to the Jefferson County Board of Education in November 2018. He is the father of two JCPS students and previously served two terms on their School-Based Decision Making (SBDM) Council.
In his private life, James is a trial lawyer and part owner of Craig Henry PLC, a law firm dedicated to the practice of consumer and employment law on behalf of Louisville residents. He is recognized annually by Super Lawyers magazine as an attorney at the top of his profession. He is a past recipient of Louisville Business First’s Forty Under 40 award and Louisville Magazine’s Best Lawyer award in consumer law.
In addition to service on the Board of Education and his law practice, James serves on the Metropolitan Housing Coalition’s Board of Directors. He is the past chairman of the Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) Board of Directors, having been appointed to the Board by Mayor Greg Fischer following the overhaul of that agency in 2011. James also served on the Citizens Commission on Police Accountability, a board that provides citizen oversight of investigations by Metro Police in officer-involved shooting cases, and as chairman of his church’s finance committee. He is a past advocate for the Council on Developmental Disabilities.
In his free time, James volunteers as a coach for his children’s various sports teams and he runs marathons.
