Dr. Michael Raisor

superintendent candidate Dr. Mike Raisor
Dr. Michael (Mike) Raisor has spent more than 20 years positively impacting the lives of children as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, and district level executive. A systems thinker, Dr. Raisor has been able to translate complex problems into simple workable solutions by creating systems that both function effectively internally and with each other. Whether leading students in a project-based learning social studies classroom, leading student-athletes as a basketball coach, leading teachers and students in the turnaround of a high poverty urban school, or leading a district through today’s ambiguous educational landscape, Dr. Raisor has always relied on building relationships and collaboratively creating coherent systems that serve to create clarity, purpose, and moreover, success.

Jefferson County Public Schools’ Chief Operations Officer since March 2012, Dr. Raisor holds five degrees from three different universities, most notably a Ph.D. from Indiana State University, where his doctoral research identified the characteristics of highly effective superintendents, and a graduate business degree from The Ohio State University.

A certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, Raisor is also an alumnus of Leadership Louisville, Harvard University’s National Institute for Urban School Leaders & Public Education Leadership Project, the University of Virginia’s Turnaround Leadership Program, Georgetown University’s Executive Management Program, and The Walt Disney Institute’s Disney Approach to Leadership Excellence.

Mike and his wife, Renita are the proud parents of Harrison, who is fifteen (15).
