Western High School

strives to engage, prepare, and graduate all students ready for their education and career goals. To do this, Western’s Warrior Way is to be engaged in learning today, empowered for success tomorrow. Students can engage in many programs at Western, including Early College, culinary arts, carpentry, graphic communications, administrative support, and patient care. Additionally, over their four years, students can earn up to 60 college credits, tuition-free! Western offers the Advance Program, Comprehensive Program, and Honors Program. Additionally, Western is one of two schools offering the Louisville Rotary Promise Scholarship, helping students attend college.

School Highlights:

  • Small learning community—Small teams of students and teachers offer a personalized learning experience.
  • All freshmen will be given the opportunity for exposure to and experience in each of the offered career pathways. The Freshman Academy emphasizes career exploration and development and essential success skills, such as how to take initiative and responsibility, effective teamwork and communication, critical thinking, and problem solving. These opportunities will help freshmen make an informed decision about which career Academy they will enroll in for their sophomore through senior years.
  • In the Residential Carpentry pathway, students gain practical experience in construction as they apply technical knowledge and skills to install and repair wood structures and fixtures. Students are able to connect what they’re learning in core subjects to the real world and graduate with the knowledge and skills to begin a career in the construction industry.
  • Students in the Culinary Arts pathway learn how to prepare and plate food in a fully-equipped kitchen on the school’s campus. Students gain industry certifications and an understanding of nutrition as well as business and service basics related to various restaurant and culinary environments. Students graduate from this program equipped with the knowledge and skills to work in the culinary and food services industry. Students also have the opportunity to gain real world work experience through our partnership with Heine Brothers Coffee while working at the Culinary Café and earning their Barista Certification.
