The Jefferson County Board of Education has voted unanimously to approve Tuesday, August 25th as the start date for the 2020-2021 school year. Click here to read more details about the decision. We will start the school year using Non Traditional Instruction (NTI). Online instruction for students starts on August 25 and continues for six weeks at which time we will reevaluate the public health environment in our community. See details of our plan,

The COVID-19 crisis left us with only imperfect options for the start of school this fall. But with the health and safety of JCPS students and staff as our top priority, allowing them to learn and teach from home is the best option. See Superintendent Dr. Marty Pollio’s letter to families.

While we were pleased with the programming offered and student participation in NTI the final weeks of last school year, we know it can do better. NTI 2.0 to start the 2020-21 will not be the same as what students experienced in March, April and May. It will be more engaging and more like a regular classroom experience for students as JCPS Academic Chief Dr. Carmen Coleman explains.

To make NTI 2.0 work, every child will need a computer at home. After distributing close to 20,000 Chromebooks to families in April spring, we have ordered another 30,000 for this fall. We are also ordering more WiFi hotspots for families who don’t have high speed internet access. We will be sharing more information with families soon.
