Elementary Magnet Lottery Wait List

Magnet programs have a limited number of seats. When more applicants apply for a program than there are seats to accommodate them, a random lottery selection process is used to fill the available seats and create a wait list for the program. Placement on the wait list means your child was not selected for initial placement as a result of the lottery process.

Parents will receive a letter containing their child’s wait list number for first-choice applications the week of February 26, 2024, for elementary magnet schools and programs.

The wait list status will be updated every Friday at 4:30 p.m.

The wait list number indicates your child’s position on the wait list. Your child’s wait list number will not change even though the number of students on the wait list may decrease as placements are offered.

The wait list is maintained for elementary magnet schools and programs that use a lottery for their applicant selection process. Wait lists are only maintained for elementary schools that currently have a wait list.

The magnet application period for the 2024-25 school year is November 6, 2023–December 22, 2023. Any applications submitted after the deadline are considered late applications. Late magnet applications are not included in the wait list and will be reviewed based on building capacity and program need.

When more applicants apply for a program than there are seats to accommodate them, a random lottery selection process is used to fill the available seats and create a wait list for the program. Placement on the wait list means your child was not selected for initial placement as a result of the lottery process.

Parents will receive a letter containing their child’s wait list number for first-choice applications the week of March 11, 2024, for middle and high school magnet schools and programs that use a lottery for their applicant selection process. This will only include middle and high school traditional magnets. If the magnet schools use selection criteria and the student was rejected based on "program at capacity," the magnet school can contact families to offer a seat if seats become available.

The wait list status will be updated every Friday at 4:30 p.m.

The wait list number indicates your child’s position on the wait list. Your child’s wait list number will not change even though the number of students on the wait list may decrease as placements are offered.

Wait lists are only maintained for middle and high magnet programs that currently have a wait list.
