Testing

Counselors can assist in helping parents find and interpret their child’s district and statewide assessments (e.g., Kentucky Performance Rating for Educational Progress [K-PREP], Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State-to-State for English Language Learners [ACCESS for ELLs], Advance Program, content diagnostics, and proficiencies).

School counselors can also assist students in preparing for standardized tests by promoting opportunities designed to increase knowledge and improve test-taking skills. School counselors help students and their families become knowledgeable about test preparation programs and assist them as they decide which programs best meet their needs. In Jefferson County, some counselors are the building assessment coordinator and are involved in planning, training for, and scheduling mandated assessments.
