Educational Advocacy

We assist homeless families with school information and placements, the transfer of school records, immunization records, and proof of address. If a family moves into a homeless shelter, our office coordinates with the shelter to keep the children in their neighborhood schools.

After-school tutoring programs are provided in the shelters to assist students who need to work on homework assignments and improve basic skills in reading and math. Summer enrichment programs are offered to homeless students who need assistance with basic skills. Referrals to Optional and Magnet Programs and the Advance Program are made through our office to facilitate the inclusion of these students.
