Hartstern Elementary School Dress Code
Our dress code is as follows: Student dress and personal appearance should not disrupt or distract from the educational environment. The following guidelines apply during the school day and at school-sponsored activities.
Shirts, Sweatshirts, Sweaters, and Dresses
Shirts, tops, and dresses must cover the shoulders and have sleeves.
Shirts and tops must cover the midriff when a student raises their arms above their head.
Shirts, tops, and dresses may not be low-cut or see-through.
Clothing displaying controversial or obscene language or images is prohibited.
Clothing displaying weapons, drugs, alcohol, or other subjects for which the school has zero tolerance is prohibited.
Hoodies may be worn, but hoods may not be worn over the head inside the building.
Coats and outdoor jackets must be kept in designated areas and may not be worn in classroom areas.
Shorts, Skirts, Skorts, Dresses, and Pants
Shorts, skirts, skorts, tunics, and dresses may be no shorter than five inches above the knee.
Pants must be worn at the waist. Sagging is not permitted.
Leggings may be worn only with a shirt, tunic, skirt, or dress that fully covers the student’s seat.
Jeans and pants with rips or holes may not have holes higher than five inches above the knee.
Shoes
Athletic shoes are strongly recommended because students participate in recess, physical education, and other movement activities throughout the school day. Shoes must be worn at all times.
The following are prohibited:
House slippers
Flip-flops
Footies
Athletic slides
Shoes with heels higher than two inches
Crocs must be in “sports mode”.
Any footwear that does not provide adequate support or protection
Miscellaneous and Other Items
Pajamas may not be worn except on designated school days.
Hats must remain in backpacks during the instructional day.
Head coverings worn for religious or cultural purposes are permitted.
Makeup may not be worn at school.
