Ballard continues to rank among the top schools in the state for number of National Merit Finalists and Governor’s Scholars Program participants. Ballard has some of the highest state assessment scores of all Jefferson County non-selective schools, and students annually outperform Kentucky and U.S. averages on the SAT, Advanced Placement (AP), and ACT tests. Ballard is leading the way in the Academies of Louisville initiative as 1 of the 11 original JCPS high schools that opened as a wall-to-wall Academy school for the 2018-19 school year. School Highlights: Through Ballard’s diverse curriculum program, all students will have the opportunity for a positive educational experience that is tailored to meet their evolving stages of cognitive development. Ballard offers an ever-expanding list of AP courses as well as the Advance Program (Gifted and Talented), Honors Program, and Exceptional Child Education (ECE) Program. Ballard offers a Freshman Career Options course to all ninth-grade students. This yearlong course is designed to support student efforts, encourage student success, and improve personal and academic skills. Students will be able to make an informed decision about further course work and working toward individual postsecondary planning. As a result, students have the option to choose a career pathway at Ballard. With 11 pathway options across 3 different Academies, Ballard students have the opportunity to pursue programs that personally interest them. Students across all Academies benefit from unique experiences, such as hands-on training and mentoring from industry professionals. These experiences give them real-world skills and practical knowledge and provide an advantage for college and career success. Recent pathway additions include Interactive Media, Aerospace Engineering, and Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Biomedical Science.
