JCPS Update
Dear Brown School Families,

I have some disappointing news. The hourly forecast for Friday has us at temperatures above 93 F by noon, and the temperature continues to climb throughout the day. New district guidance released this week prohibits outdoor field trips and recess if temperatures exceed 92 F. With that being said, our students will be unable to attend the Worldfest Field Trip this Friday.

I know our students are going to be disappointed, and I am truly sorry that we will miss this school tradition this year.

Take care,

Dr. Angela

🎉 Congratulations are in order! J. Graham Brown School earned GOLD recognition status for the State Recognition of Fidelity of Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) for the 2025-26 school year. While that is a long title, the heart of it is simple: our school has been recognized at the highest level for creating a safe, positive, encouraging, and supportive learning environment for every single student. Check out the letter we received from Commissioner Dr. Robbie Fletcher.

What is PBIS?
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based framework used by schools to promote positive student behavior, academic success, and social-emotional well-being. Rather than focusing solely on responding to misbehavior, PBIS proactively teaches students expected behaviors, recognizes them when they meet those expectations, and provides targeted support whenever extra help is needed.

What Does "Gold Status" Mean?
Earning Gold status, which is the highest level of state recognition, means an independent evaluation confirmed that our school implements PBIS with the absolute highest standards of fidelity and consistency. Specifically, it highlights that we:
* Consistently teach and reinforce clear, school-wide behavioral expectations across all grade levels.
* Use data-driven strategies to support students' academic, emotional, and behavioral needs early and effectively.
* Provide multi-tiered support systems so every student receives the exact level of encouragement or intervention they need to thrive.
* Foster a positive culture where students feel valued, safe, and ready to learn every day.

Thank You for Your Partnership!
This recognition reflects the hard work of our dedicated teachers, staff, and students, and it would not be possible without you. A positive school culture begins with strong relationships between home, school, and community.

Thank you for reinforcing these values at home and for your continued support of our school vision. We are so proud of our students and look forward to building on this success together!

💡 DID YOU KNOW | JCPS has adopted a Language Access Plan (LAP), available in multiple languages, to help ensure multilingual students, families, and employees can communicate effectively and access district services and information in their preferred language.

View the LAP: https://www.canva.com/design/DAG2bBklRnQ/3r-5oYH2VnEDGflVdbC5PQ/view?utm_content=DAG2bBklRnQ&utm_campaign=designshare&utm_medium=link2&utm_source=uniquelinks&utlId=hfa48bdac12

Available in multiple languages: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FSP9gKb5lplKaJpYFC3WZrHpgf5puE6U/view?ts=6a724033

The LAP explains the language support services, resources, and communication assistance available throughout the district. It also describes how JCPS provides interpretation and translation services, approved language-access technology, employee training, and multilingual communication practices across schools and programs.

If employees prefer to communicate in a language other than English, they can contact their immediate supervisor for work-related communication within their department or the appropriate district department when seeking assistance from another district office, such as Human Resources.

Schools, programs, and departments may request language support services through the Language Services Office to facilitate communication with students, families, and employees who prefer to communicate in a language other than English.

To learn more about the LAP, information about language support services, and district language access resources, visit the JCPS Language Services webpage: https://jeffersoncpsky.sites.thrillshare.com/o/jcps/page/language-services

Greetings! My name is An Tran and I am excited to join the J. Graham Brown School as a high school Chemistry teacher and 8th grade science teacher.

I am originally from Vietnam where I went to the University of Science - Vietnam National University to pursue my Bachelor’s degree in chemistry. I later moved to Louisville, KY where I was granted both of my Bachelor and Mater of Science in chemistry from the University of Louisville. When I was in Vietnam, I used to be an English tutor for a nine-year-old boy. The experience has sparked my interest in becoming a teacher.

I believe every child possesses unique strengths and potential; and education serves as the bridge that transforms curiosity into knowledge and opportunities into success. By fostering collaboration, open communication, and creativity in my classroom, I strive to create a supportive and engaging learning environment where all students can thrive. I look forward to contributing to the success and growth of the students at Brown High School to the best of my ability.
