HELPFUL TIPS BEFORE THE COLOR RUN/WALK
1. Eligible students will be given a white Color Run/Walk t-shirt to wear on the day of the event.
Students may wear athletic shorts or sweatpants to school on the day of the walk/run. Shorts/ sweatpants
may not have LARGE logos/writing on them, no holes, no cut-offs, and no blue jean material. Shorts
may have a small logo or writing in the corner of the shorts, like a Nike or Adidas logo. No offensive wording
or print on shorts or sweatpants will be allowed, as listed in the Crosby Student Uniform policy.
2. If students are concerned about color in their hair, oiling hair well on the race morning will make it
easier to wash out the color later. Coconut oil or olive oil works best. A good leave-in conditioner will
do the trick as well. This is a particularly useful tip for light colored or highlighted hair. Students
may also wear a shower cap to cover their hair completely throughout the event.
3. Before the walk/run starts, students may choose to wear a thick scarf, hat, or bandana to cover
their hair. Students may also choose to wear sunglasses or goggles to help avoid the powder
getting into their eyes. Students who RAISE $50 will be given sunglasses and a bandana the day of
the event.
4. Students may wear a tutu over shorts or sweatpants on the day of the event.
5. Consider wearing old shoes on the day of the Color Run/Walk. Although powder should wash out over time, it is not guaranteed to wash out completely.
HELPFUL TIPS AFTER THE COLOR RUN/WALK:
1. Students will NOT be allowed back in the school building after they participate in the walk/run. Students will take all items (e.g., backpacks, lunch bags, etc) outside to be brought home the day of the event, before the start of the event.
2. All students will be given a trash bag to sit on for their transport home.
3. Once home, dust off as much powder as possible before applying any water. Most of the color should wash off immediately. Any remaining powder color should come out in a few washes.
4. If you want the color to stay in your shirt (or bandana):
STEP 1: Vinegar Your Shirt. Vinegar prevents the colors from fading. You want to soak or spray the shirt with vinegar. You may do this once a day for several days.
STEP 2: Iron the Shirt. After soaking the shirt with vinegar, you will now need to iron the colors to be absorbed further once they are dry.
STEP 3: Dry the Shirt in the dryer. You may wrap in an old towel when doing this.
STEP 4: Cold Wash the Shirt. Wash on cold by itself.
5. If you want the color to come out of your clothes/shoes, it probably will not come all the way out. Remove all excess powder before adding water. Wash your Color Run clothing separately from all other clothes with COLD water. Oxiclean or a similar product will work wonders. If it doesn’t all come out on the first wash, you may look down and see a little trace of color powder on your shoes. Eventually, it will go away, but until then SMILE! It will remind you how much fun you had!
