As we head into Valentine’s week with a forecast for steady weather and five full days of instruction, we know the energy in our hallways will be high. Between the seasonal excitement and the inevitable extra sugar, it is the perfect time for us to refocus on what matters most.
This week, I have challenged our staff to join me in a building-wide initiative: "Unplug and Reconnect." We recognize that our students spend a significant portion of their lives behind screens. While technology is a powerful tool, we believe that true social-emotional growth and deep learning happen when we step away from the glowing blue light.
What "Unplugged" looks like at Crosby:
Meaningful Dialogue: Instead of digital discussion boards, students will be engaging in Socratic Seminars and Fishbowl discussions, learning to look their peers in the eye and build on each other's ideas.
Physical Engagement: In Math and Science, we are trading "clicking and dragging" for hands-on manipulatives and physical experiments.
Social-Emotional Bonding: By limiting Chromebook use where possible, we are creating more space for collaborative talk and real-world problem-solving.
How you can join us: We invite you to extend this challenge at home! Whether it’s a "no-screen" dinner or a 20-minute tech-free window in the evening, these small moments of reconnection build the Habits of Success we want for every student.
Physical engagement sticks better than a digital click. I am excited to spend time in our classrooms this week witnessing our students reconnecting with their learning—and each other—in person.
Thank you for your continued partnership in making Crosby #ThePlaceToBe. CLICK HERE for the remainder of the weekly!
