APPLICATIONS OVER APPS | On Saturday, Nov. 15, the Office of School Choice will be on-site at the JCPS Satellite Office (1107 S. 17th St.) to answer any questions you have about the school application process. All JCPS schools, including Bates Elementary, are serving as Community drop off locations for food donations to Dare to Care Food Bank. We recognize the immediate and critical challenge faced by many of our families as a result of recent federal changes. We recognize the devastating impact this sudden reduction in food security resources has on countless students across JCPS.
We have setup a temporary food donation area where community or school families can donate non-perishable food items such as canned protein (tuna, chicken), peanut butter, pasta, rice, and cereal.
If you would like to make a donation, you may send non-perishable items with your child, or bring them to school during normal office hours (9:00-5:00)

All JCPS schools and buildings are closed on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2025. All athletics and extracurricular activities are also canceled. Employees will telecommute.

🚨SCHOOL CANCELED | Due to the necessary shelter-in-place order issued by the city following this evening’s tragic plane crash, all JCPS schools and buildings will be closed Wednesday, Nov. 5. This will operate like a snow day with no online instruction. All extracurricular activities and athletics are also canceled.

Veterans Day Information!

Our Coins Wars continue this week! Send any loose change. 100% of coins collected will be donated to Wounded Warriors.

This week, while supplies last, students who donate coins to our coin war will receive a bracelet or stick from the Wounded Warrior Project. This is our last push before final collection on Friday, November 7.

Our Coin Wars to benefit Wounded Warriors Project is still up and going!!! We have two more weeks! Send in all your loose change! Congratulations to Mrs. Stevens and Mrs. Barr's classes who were this weeks winners!!!!

Our The Jared Box Project was a HUGE success! We were able to donate 61 Jared Boxes to Norton Hospital! Thank you Bates community for helping to brighten the day of pediatric patients.

APPLICATION PERIOD | The 2026-27 School Application Period is officially open to families through Dec. 19. If your student is entering kindergarten (those who will be 5 on or before Aug. 1, 2026) or has never attended a JCPS school, you must first register online to get your access key.
