All JCPS schools, including Bates Elementary, are serving as Community drop off locations for food donations to Dare to Care Food Bank. We recognize the immediate and critical challenge faced by many of our families as a result of recent federal changes. We recognize the devastating impact this sudden reduction in food security resources has on countless students across JCPS.
We have setup a temporary food donation area where community or school families can donate non-perishable food items such as canned protein (tuna, chicken), peanut butter, pasta, rice, and cereal.
If you would like to make a donation, you may send non-perishable items with your child, or bring them to school during normal office hours (9:00-5:00)

We’re excited to partner with Abound Credit Union to bring our families a Virtual Financial Wellness Workshop on Monday, November 10th at 6:00 PM
💻 Hosted via Zoom
Join us for a 30-minute session focused on the Value of Financial Wellness, followed by a gift card giveaway for attendees and a chance to connect with financial wellness experts. Let’s empower our families with tools for financial success!

All JCPS schools and buildings will open and operate as normal on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025. Our crews tested the water and air quality at all of our schools and buildings today and everything came back normal. Louisville Metro Government officials have also informed us that it is safe to reopen schools. Our thoughts remain with all those affected by Tuesday’s tragic plane crash.
Veterans Day Information!
Our Coins Wars continue this week! Send any loose change. 100% of coins collected will be donated to Wounded Warriors!
This week, while supplies last, students who donate coins to our coin war will receive a bracelet or stick from the Wounded Warrior Project. This is our last push before final collection on Friday, November 7.
Thank you to all who have donated so far!
We also are doing our annual Padlet honoring our Veterans connected to Bates. The link is here:

We appreciate your understanding as our schools and buildings are closed today while the city has implemented a necessary shelter-in-place due to last night’s tragic plane crash.
Today, our teams are checking the air and water quality at all of our schools and buildings. We are doing these checks out of an abundance of caution, as the safety of our students and staff is our top priority.
If you and your family need food assistance today, please reach out to Dare to Care Food Bank:
Website: DaretoCare.org
Phone: (502) 966-3821
We know situations like what happened last night impact our students in different ways. Every JCPS school has a mental health team that is available to talk with students about how they are feeling. If your child would like support when we return to class, please reach out to their school.
As a reminder, we provide important updates via text, email, JCPS social media platforms, the JCPS app, our website, and local media.
Thank you for your continued support of our students and staff.

Bates Families-
We understand that the current government shutdown may be creating challenges for families, especially with the temporary pause in SNAP benefits and other supports. Please know that you are not alone — our school community is here to help.
We want to provide our families with several resources that can help. If your family could use extra support , local food pantries and community organizations are available to provide groceries, meals, and other resources. You’re welcome to contact our Family Resource Center Coordinator (Jessica Cherry at 502-677-1499) for confidential assistance or to connect with nearby programs.
For families who are able and would like to help, donations of nonperishable food items or monetary donations can be make directly to the food pantry of your choice. Every contribution makes a difference and helps ensure all of our students and families have what they need.
Together, we can take care of one another and keep our Bates community strong. 💛

Hello Parents,
I want to personally thank all the families who have already participated in our SchoolStore program! We are on our way to reaching our goal, but we need everyone's help to make sure our teachers get the essential tools they need to help our students succeed.
If your family has not participated, there's still time!
This safe and easy program is 100% online so there is no face-to-face selling, collecting money, or delivering products. Your child will receive a prize just for participating, and more prizes will be awarded when goals are reached.
Please help now. It really will make a difference.
Go to https://www.schoolstore.net/sid.t?0000007285 to show our valued teachers your support.
Thanks
Bates Elementary School
P.S. Family participation is the key to our success, and we are counting on you!
