What a beautiful evening at Hawthorne! Our families came together to celebrate Earth Day through learning and connection.
Families explored stations throughout the building—planting marigold seeds, creating marigold art and storybooks, visiting the Book Fair, reading “Freaky Frog” stories, completing a tree scavenger hunt, and learning from our amazing community partners. 🌼📚🌳
We were excited to welcome Rootbound Farm, Rooted Solutions, and Blackacre, who shared information about local agriculture and sustainability.
Students also had the opportunity to meet animals up close thanks to Kentuckiana Backyard Farms, who brought goats, and our own Stone-Porter family, who brought sheep. 🐐🐑
Highland Middle School joined us to showcase their chickens and offered a quail egg taste test! 🐓
Families enjoyed a shared meal from Mayan Café, bringing everyone together to close out the evening. 🌮
We loved seeing so many families visit station after station and fully engage in the experience—that’s what cultivating community looks like at Hawthorne. 💚

¡Qué hermosa tarde en Hawthorne! Nuestras familias se reunieron para celebrar el Día de la Tierra a través del aprendizaje y la conexión.
Las familias participaron en estaciones por toda la escuela—sembrando semillas de cempasúchil, creando arte y cuentos, visitando la Feria del Libro, leyendo cuentos de “Freaky Frog,” participando en una búsqueda de árboles y aprendiendo con nuestros socios comunitarios. 🌼📚🌳
Tuvimos el gusto de contar con Rootbound Farm, Rooted Solutions y Blackacre, quienes compartieron información sobre la agricultura local y la sostenibilidad.

As we prepare for our Earth Day celebration this Wednesday, April 22, we are still collecting plant donations to help grow our Hawthorne gardens!
We are especially looking for:
🌼 Drought-resistant, sun-loving perennials
🌿 Sensory plants (plants you can touch and smell)
We would love to have a little piece of your family garden in our school garden. 💚
👉 Please send plants in with your student this Wednesday or bring them with you to the event.
👉 If possible, label your plant with the plant name and your family’s name.

Mientras nos preparamos para nuestra celebración del Día de la Tierra este miércoles 22 de abril, ¡seguimos recolectando donaciones de plantas para nuestros jardines de Hawthorne!
Estamos buscando especialmente:
🌼 Plantas perennes resistentes a la sequía y que toleren el sol
🌿 Plantas sensoriales (que se puedan tocar y oler)
Nos encantaría tener un pedacito del jardín de su familia en el jardín de nuestra escuela. 💚
👉 Puede enviar las plantas con su estudiante este miércoles o traerlas al evento.
👉 Si es posible, incluya una etiqueta con el nombre de la planta y el nombre de su familia.

ACTION REQUIRED | We need to know how your child will get to and from school for the 2026-27 school year. The JCPS Transportation Verification (TV) form is now open. Every JCPS family must complete this form to let us know how your child will get to and from school.
The final day to request bus transportation for the first day of school is June 8, 2026. Eligible bus riders who fill out the Transportation Verification form by June 8, 2026, will be notified of their bus stop location in July via the JCPS Bus Teller.
