Our students participated in their first Fishbowl Discussion, sharing their thoughts about the challenges Percy Jackson faces in The Lightning Thief.
Students listened carefully, built upon one another’s ideas, and used evidence from the novel to strengthen their understanding. We are proud to see our Owls growing as thoughtful readers, confident speakers, and respectful listeners! 💜

OAS, keep those Passports going! Our Hispanic Heritage Month Passport Challenge is already underway, and we want to see even more students listening, learning, and participating each day!
Each morning, students and staff are having the opportunity to listen, learn, and put their knowledge to the test with our daily Heritage Check. Every correct answer gets you one step closer to completing all 23 challenges!
Students: Your answers count toward your grade-level competition, so encourage your classmates to participate!
Staff: You’re part of the competition too! Grab a Passport, listen carefully, and play along with our students.
Families: We need you too! Ask your student about the daily Heritage Check, encourage them to keep up with their Passport, and ask them to share something new they learned about Hispanic heritage.
🍂 And the challenge DOES NOT stop during Fall Break! Special Heritage Checks will be posted right here on OAS social media, so follow along and keep those Passports going!
Who will make it all the way to 23 answers?
Many People. One Community.
Unidos, Somos Más - Together, We Are More.

Dr. Gomez, OAS’s new Executive Principal, received a surprise visit from one of her former students from her days as an Assistant Principal, who also happens to be a proud OAS graduate!
Now thriving in college, she came back to visit and reconnect with some of the OAS teachers and staff who taught her. She shared how much these educators impacted her life and how she will never forget the difference they made. 💜
This is what education is all about. Students may leave our classrooms, but the relationships, encouragement, and lessons they receive can stay with them for a lifetime.
Once OAS, always OAS! 🦉💜

Our building is coming alive with color, culture, and pride! A huge thank you to our amazing Plant Operator and Custodial Team for helping us hang flags and banners throughout the school as we celebrate the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of the Hispanic and Latino communities.
And the best part? Our entire OAS staff is joining in! We are committed to creating a school where every scholar feels seen, represented, and proud of who they are.
This is more than decorating our building, it’s about building belonging and creating meaningful experiences for our scholars.
¡Celebramos juntos! 🇵🇦🇲🇽🇨🇴🇵🇷🇩🇴🇨🇺🇻🇪🇬🇹🇭🇳🇸🇻🇳🇮🇨🇷🇪🇨🇵🇪 and so many more!
