As a reminder, state testing (KSA) begins tomorrow (Monday, May 4) for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders! Please get a good night's sleep, eat breakfast at home or school (it's free for everyone!), and be ON TIME to school!
This is an important time to show what you know! 3rd graders test for three days, 4th graders test for four days, and 5th graders test for six days (this week and next Tuesday).
It's time to shine and be GOLDEN!

🌎🌱 Cultivando Comunidad 🌱🌎
What a beautiful evening at Hawthorne! Our families came together to celebrate Earth Day through learning and connection.
Families explored stations throughout the building—planting marigold seeds, creating marigold art and storybooks, visiting the Book Fair, reading “Freaky Frog” stories, completing a tree scavenger hunt, and learning from our amazing community partners. 🌼📚🌳
We were excited to welcome Rootbound Farm, Rooted Solutions, and Blackacre, who shared information about local agriculture and sustainability.
Students also had the opportunity to meet animals up close thanks to Kentuckiana Backyard Farms, who brought goats, and our own Stone-Porter family, who brought sheep. 🐐🐑
Highland Middle School joined us to showcase their chickens and offered a quail egg taste test! 🐓
Families enjoyed a shared meal from Mayan Café, bringing everyone together to close out the evening. 🌮
We loved seeing so many families visit station after station and fully engage in the experience—that’s what cultivating community looks like at Hawthorne. 💚

¡Qué hermosa tarde en Hawthorne! Nuestras familias se reunieron para celebrar el Día de la Tierra a través del aprendizaje y la conexión.
Las familias participaron en estaciones por toda la escuela—sembrando semillas de cempasúchil, creando arte y cuentos, visitando la Feria del Libro, leyendo cuentos de “Freaky Frog,” participando en una búsqueda de árboles y aprendiendo con nuestros socios comunitarios. 🌼📚🌳

🌎🌱 Cultivando Comunidad – Plant Donation Reminder
As we prepare for our Earth Day celebration this Wednesday, April 22, we are still collecting plant donations to help grow our Hawthorne gardens!
We are especially looking for:
🌼 Drought-resistant, sun-loving perennials
🌿 Sensory plants (plants you can touch and smell)
We would love to have a little piece of your family garden in our school garden. 💚
👉 Please send plants in with your student this Wednesday or bring them with you to the event.
👉 If possible, label your plant with the plant name and your family’s name.

🌙✨ Arab American Heritage Month ✨🌙
As April continues, we want to take a moment to recognize Arab American Heritage Month. While we’re a little late in sharing, we didn’t want the month to pass without honoring the rich cultures, histories, and contributions of Arab Americans in our community and beyond.
Did you know that Arab Americans trace their heritage to over 20 countries across Southwest Asia and North Africa (often called the Arab world), and that Arabic is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world? Arab Americans have made important contributions in science, literature, medicine, and the arts.
At Hawthorne, we celebrate the diversity that makes our school strong and vibrant. 💙

🎶A Musical Experience to Remember!🎶
Our 3rd–5th grade students had an incredible time enjoying a live performance by YAPA!, a high-energy Latin music group brought to us by the Louisville Folk School!
Students were engaged—clapping, moving, and connecting with music rooted in Central and South American cultures. It was a meaningful opportunity to experience Spanish-language music in a fun and interactive way that connects directly to our learning as a Spanish immersion school.
A huge thank you to Louisville Folk School for making this experience possible for our students!

¡Nuestros estudiantes de 3.º a 5.º grado disfrutaron de una presentación en vivo increíble de YAPA!, un grupo de música latina lleno de energía, gracias a Louisville Folk School!

ACTION REQUIRED | We need to know how your child will get to and from school for the 2026-27 school year. The JCPS Transportation Verification (TV) form is now open. Every JCPS family must complete this form to let us know how your child will get to and from school.
The final day to request bus transportation for the first day of school is June 8, 2026. Eligible bus riders who fill out the Transportation Verification form by June 8, 2026, will be notified of their bus stop location in July via the JCPS Bus Teller. 🌿💚 A HUGE thank you to everyone who joined us for our very first Hawks Spring Spruce-Up! 💚🌿
It was incredible to see so many Hawthorne families spend part of the final day of Spring Break giving back to our school community. In just a few short hours, families came together to rake leaves, clean up garden beds, spread mulch, and help prepare our campus for a beautiful spring season ahead. 🌸☀️
We are so grateful to every family who came out to lend a hand but we want to give an especially big shoutout to the Villanueva family with Roberto’s Landscaping for helping with much of the prep work on what will soon become our ECE Sensory Garden! 🌱✨ We are so excited for this space to continue taking shape.
This is exactly what Hawthorne Lends a Hand is all about—families coming together to serve, support, and strengthen our school community. ❤️

Join us today from 10:00 AM–12:00 PM as we come together to help beautify our campus during Hawks Spring Spruce Up! 💚🦅
We’ll be working on the front flower beds, spreading mulch, and helping with other garden projects around the school.
