He leads Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) recycling efforts and helps educate teachers and students on sustainability issues. Those efforts helped Joe Irwin land the 2024 Joan Riehm Award from the Partnership for a Green City. The Partnership - JCPS, University of Louisville, Jefferson Community and Technical College, and Metro Government - also recognized outgoing JCPS Superintendent Dr. Marty Pollio for his efforts to make JCPS buildings and policies more eco-friendly.
