Child being handed box lunch by JCPS employee

June 6, 2025 – Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) is once again offering families several locations across the city to pick up free meals this summer. JCPS School and Community Nutrition Services (SCNS) is offering meals at 119 sites including schools, parks, and community partners’ buildings. The meal sites are open weekdays through July 25.

“Hunger doesn’t take a vacation, so making sure children have access to nutritious meals during the summer months is very important,” said Terina Edington, executive administrator of JCPS Nutrition Services. “We provide food to keep them thriving when they’re not in school and don’t have breakfast and lunch provided every day. The Summer Food Service Program is also a great way for parents to fight the rising cost of groceries by getting their children a nutritious, free meal from JCPS and using the cost savings for other things their family needs.”

Free lunches will be available each weekday to children 18 and under at 38 mobile stops and 10 community partner locations. Free hot breakfasts and lunches will be served at 68 school sites. Families who live in more rural areas of Jefferson County and don’t have easy access to the mobile, community partner, or school locations can pick up prepackaged meal boxes for each child at one of three bulk distribution sites on Tuesdays:

  1. Beckley Park at the Egg Lawn (1411 Beckley Creek Pkwy, Louisville, KY 40245), two parking areas down from the dog park and near the sprinkler park

  2. Evangel World Prayer Center (6900 Billtown Rd, Louisville, KY 40299), close to the Gene Snyder Freeway

  3. PRP Fire Training Center (8201 Greenwood Rd, Louisville, KY 40258), close to Cane Run Road

The three drive-through bulk distribution sites will be open from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. every Tuesday beginning June 2.

  • Parents/guardians will be able to pick up one meal box per child. Each box contains seven breakfasts and seven lunches.

  • There is a limit of two boxes if children are not accompanied by a parent or guardian.

  • Parents requesting food for more than two children will be required to have all children present.

  • Meal boxes will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

JCPS is also providing meals to children participating in the Summer Success League and Lit & programs at 62 sites. Last summer, JCPS distributed more than 240,000 meals to children in its summer programs and at its walk-in and walk-up sites.

Families can find a list of all the 2025 summer meal locations and menus on the Nutrition Services website: https://jcps.nutrislice.com. One can search for nearby sites by entering their address or by calling the JCPS SCNS office at (502) 485-3186.

Please note: Sites will be closed on June 19 and July 4 in celebration of holidays.
