The Western Middle School for the Arts band program is one of only two bands in Kentucky selected to perform at a national conference next year, marking a tremendous honor for the school and participating students.
WMSA will perform at the American School Band Directors Association (ASBDA) National Convention and Conference in June 2026, said Adam Bullock, the school’s director of bands.
“This achievement places Western Middle School for the Arts on a national stage, showcasing the talent, dedication, and artistry within our band program,” Bullock said. “Our students’ hard work has created an opportunity to represent not only our school, but also our community and the state of Kentucky. We are proud and excited to share the excellence of Western Middle School for the Arts, JCPS, and music education in our schools.”
The ASBDA promotes excellence in K-12 school band programs. The organization’s National Convention is a prestigious gathering of music educators and student musicians from across the country that takes place every other year, Bullock said.
WMSA student and percussionist Cash Doyle said he’s excited the school has earned this national recognition and proud to help lead his friends and bandmates as an eighth grader.
“I’m thankful for my talented peers who love music as much as I do and my amazing band director, Mr. Bullock,” Doyle said. “I can’t think of a better way to celebrate everything I have learned and experienced as a band major at Western.”
