Behind every JCPS school, dedicated individuals are working tirelessly to ensure classrooms are clean, buildings run smoothly, and students can learn in a safe environment.
Then, there are the people who go above and beyond. If you've ever been to Schaffner Traditional Elementary School, you've experienced that level of excellence.
Principal Zachary Eckels said, "Her attendance is perfect. Her dependability is unmatched, and she leads with professionalism and respect at all times... Teachers frequently tell me how spotless classrooms are, and visitors always, always comment about how clean and great our building looks. Always. I even had a person last year ask me if we had a secret crew that cleans the building at nighttime, and I just smiled and said, nope, we got Alicia."
Alicia Miller is the Plant Operator at Schaffner Traditional Elementary School. She was surprised by a first-of-its-kind award on Tuesday. The JCPS Plant Operator of the Year recognizes outstanding individuals doing often-thankless work across the district.
As her name was announced, teachers and staff from across her school, as well as the district office, erupted in applause. Miller stood, tears welling in her eyes, and accepted the award.
Director of Facility Management Dr. Anthony Johnson added, "Ms. Miller's impact is far more than keeping the school running; she ensures the school is a safe and welcoming environment for students, staff, parents, and the community. Her leadership, work ethic, and teamwork set the standard for excellence."
Now, a banner bearing Alicia Miller's name will proudly be hung for years to come at Schaffner.
