Door and wall made to look like San Juan

JCPS students and staff have gone above and beyond to recognize the unique backgrounds that make up our school district during Hispanic Heritage Month.

This Week, Newcomer Academy celebrated its diverse backgrounds with a Parade of Nations, representing more than 50 nationalities.  Students decorated doors representing all nationalities throughout the school. Superintendent Dr. Yearwood visited the school and was surprised with a door decorated to honor his Trinidad & Tobago roots.

Students from Hartstern Elementary participated in a parade honoring the cultures and traditions of Spanish-speaking countries.  They wore traditional clothing, flew flags from around the world, and created posters highlighting Spanish music, dance and literature.

At Blake Elementary, a parade was held to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Students in grades three, four and five participated in the parade and carried with them the flag that represents their native country.
