An incredible 20 JCPS educators earned National Board Certification in 2025 through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

National Board Certification is the most respected professional certification available in education and provides numerous benefits to teachers, students and schools. It was designed to develop, retain and recognize accomplished teachers and to generate ongoing improvement in schools nationwide.

Superintendent Dr. Brian Yearwood said the growing number of National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) in JCPS strengthens the district’s commitment to student success.

“National Board Certification represents the highest standards in our profession,” Yearwood said. “Their expertise, dedication and commitment to continuous improvement help ensure that every student in JCPS experiences meaningful learning and academic growth every year.”

JCPS now has 388 active NBCTs.

The National Board Certification process is rooted in five core propositions that mirror JCPS's commitment to ensuring every student achieves at least one full year of academic growth every year.

  1. Teachers are committed to students and their learning.

  2. Teachers know the subjects they teach and how to teach those subjects to students.

  3. Teachers are responsible for managing and monitoring student learning.

  4. Teachers think systematically about their practice and learn from experience.

  5. Teachers are members of learning communities.

“By anchoring daily instruction in these propositions, we see a direct path to academic excellence, measurable student growth and ensuring every JCPS learner reaches their highest potential,” said Dr. Rajwinder Kaur, JCPS Director of Professional Development & Learning.
