Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) wrapped up another strong showing at the 2026 Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) State Championship last week, with students across the district bringing home top honors, including the top two finishes in the K–5 division.

“I am so proud that JCPS has now produced STLP State Champions four years in a row,” said Russ Hockenbury, JCPS STLP lead. “This continued success reflects the incredible innovation happening in our schools and the power of giving students opportunities to use technology to solve real problems, share their ideas, and lead.”

Bloom Elementary takes the top prize

Bloom Elementary earned first place in the K–5 division with their "Bloom News Kidz" project, a student-led take on the KET program hosted by Kelsey Stark. The team went beyond the competition, collaborating directly with Stark and bringing the program to several JCPS elementary schools, extending their impact well past the championship stage.

Kennedy Elementary earns runner-up

Alex R. Kennedy Elementary claimed the K–5 runner-up title with "Translation Station," an app developed using MIT App Inventor. The project centered on a two-way communication kiosk designed to help teachers, students, and families better understand one another through improved translation tools—a meaningful solution with real-world impact for JCPS communities.

JCPS Coordinator of the Year: Jackie Honghern

Congratulations to Jackie Honghern of Pathfinder School of Innovation, who was named the 2026 JCPS STLP Coordinator of the Year. Honghern has been instrumental in growing Pathfinder's STLP program over the past several years. This year alone, she supported students competing in Certipalooza—the first JCPS participants in that event in several years—while also leading a broad slate of STLP competition entries.

Congratulations to all JCPS participants
