Superintendent Dr. Brian Yearwood selected Dr. Nate Meyer and Dr. Andrew Terry to serve as the new principal supervisors for the Middle School team within the Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) Academics division, effective July 1.

 

These appointments are a key component of the District’s ongoing organizational realignment aimed at strengthening leadership support and driving academic excellence.

 

Dr. Nate Meyer

 

Dr. Nate Meyer transitions into this role with a history of school turnaround leadership within JCPS. Most recently serving as the assistant superintendent of the Enhanced Support Zone, Meyer led the creation of a dedicated department focused on improving outcomes in historically low-performing schools.

 

“I am incredibly honored to serve as a Middle School Principal Supervisor for JCPS,” Meyer said. “Middle school is a defining chapter in a student's journey, and I am eager to align our efforts to ensure every school thrives. My passion lies in empowering our principals and schools to not only meet but exceed our district goals. I look forward to stepping into this space of innovation, where we can learn alongside one another and lead with excellence.

 

Key Accomplishments:

 

  • School Improvement: Successfully supported 40 schools in exiting CSI status.

  • Proven Results: During his tenure as principal of Fern Creek High School, he led a school turnaround transformation that moved the school from the 10th percentile to the 76th percentile on the Next Generation Learners Model in five years.

  • Innovation: Co-created the Ivy Plus Program at Fern Creek High to increase student access to top-tier national colleges.

 

Meyer holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership & Organization Development and an educational specialist degree from the University of Louisville. He also earned a master’s degree in education from George Mason University and a Bachelor of Science in History with teacher certification from Eureka College. 

Meyer joined JCPS in 2003 and previously worked as an assistant principal and middle and high school teacher.

 

“Dr. Meyer is a proven leader with a decade of deep-rooted experience within JCPS,” said Dr. Jessica Rosenthal, incoming regional assistant superintendent of middle schools. “He joins our middle school team with a sharp focus on school turnaround and a relentless drive for instructional excellence. Beyond his expertise, Dr. Meyer models a genuine passion for learning that will undoubtedly inspire our principals, teachers, and students alike.”

 

Dr. Andrew Terry

Dr. Andrew Terry joins the District’s leadership team with more than 20 years of experience in educational leadership, characterized by a "boots-on-the-ground" approach to school culture and student growth. He currently serves as the principal of Norton Commons Elementary, where he achieved significant gains in student performance.

 

"It has been such a great pleasure to serve at Norton Commons Elementary, and I am now ready for the next chapter as a principal supervisor at the middle school level,” Terry said. “I want to thank the hiring committee, and especially Dr. Rosenthal, for the opportunity to serve our middle schools in such an impactful way.”

 

Key Accomplishments:

 

  • Academic Growth: Spearheaded data-driven initiatives at Norton Commons that resulted in NWEA MAP student growth rates twice as high as previous school baselines.

  • Distinguished Leadership: During his seven-year tenure as principal of Anchorage Public School, he led the institution to Blue Ribbon School of Distinction status in 2021.

  • Holistic Development: Tripled extracurricular programming at Norton Commons Elementary, expanding student opportunities in athletics and STEM, and established the school’s inaugural PTA.

 

Terry earned his doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Louisville and holds a Master of Arts in Education from the University of Kentucky.

 

“Dr. Terry is a true K-12 leader, having served as a high school administrator and a K-8 principal for over a decade,” Rosenthal said. “He brings a tireless energy and passion to the middle school team. His leadership style encapsulates a balance of support and challenge that will benefit all of our JCPS middle school leaders. It will be amazing to see what the middle school team and school leaders can accomplish together!”
