Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) Superintendent Dr. Brian Yearwood announced the appointment of Barnard Baker as the new executive officer of Communications & Community Relations, effective July 6.
A communications leader with more than two decades of leadership experience across the education, non-profit, healthcare, and corporate sectors, Baker has a proven track record of directing communications for large, complex organizations.
In this new role, Baker will assist the Superintendent in promoting overall efficiency and maximizing operational and administrative services in support of educational opportunities for K-12 school students, ensuring the alignment of projects with foundations, grants and business partnerships, parent involvement, special projects, public information and communications.
“I am excited for the opportunity to support Dr. Yearwood and champion the District’s mission to challenge and engage each learner to grow through effective teaching and meaningful experiences within caring, supportive environments,” Baker said. “I believe strongly in the power of clear communication, authentic engagement and strategic storytelling to strengthen public trust and support student success.”
Baker steps into this leadership position following impactful communications roles with prominent organizations throughout the Louisville region. Most recently, he served as Vice President of Outreach for the Kentucky Humane Society. Prior to that, he held a leadership role at Goodwill Industries of Kentucky, where he oversaw marketing and public relations and led the development of an external communications strategy supporting a $15 million capital campaign and organizational rebrand.
Baker holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and advertising from the University of Kentucky. He is a graduate of the Leadership Louisville program, served as vice president of communications for a regional AAF chapter and was a member of a PRSA regional advisory council. He has received multiple PRSA Landmarks and Diamond awards, including three Best in Show honors.
