Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) Superintendent Dr. Brian Yearwood has appointed Dr. Melvin J. Brown as the new Executive Officer of Talent.
Dr. Brown brings nearly three decades of educational and administrative leadership to JCPS. He has served as the superintendent of Montgomery Public Schools in Alabama and Reynoldsburg City Schools in Ohio. His career also includes serving as Director of Human Resources for Cuyahoga Falls City Schools and Associate Superintendent for Prince William County Schools. Dr. Brown holds a Doctorate in Educational Administration from The Ohio State University.
In taking on this new role, Dr. Brown emphasized his firm belief in the direct connection between workforce excellence and student success.
"I am honored to join JCPS at this pivotal moment," Dr. Brown said. "Throughout my career, I have believed that every staffing decision is ultimately a student achievement decision. Building an exceptional school system begins with building an exceptional workforce. My commitment is to develop a strategic human capital system that attracts outstanding educators, cultivates courageous and effective leaders, and creates a culture where every employee feels valued, challenged, and inspired to grow."
He added that collaborative partnerships across JCPS and the Louisville Metro will be central to his approach.
"By strengthening our talent pipeline and partnering closely with our employees, labor organizations, families, and community, we will ensure that every JCPS student has access to the excellent educators and learning experiences they deserve," Dr. Brown said. "I look forward to partnering with Superintendent Brian Yearwood and the Board of Education to help position JCPS as one of the nation's premier destinations for educational talent and innovation."
