Superintendent Dr. Brian Yearwood has appointed veteran educator Dr. Jim Jury as Jefferson County Public Schools’ (JCPS) interim chief academic officer (CAO) while a national search is conducted for a permanent leader.
Jury’s career spans more than four decades in public education. Since retiring, he has frequently stepped into vital interim leadership roles for JCPS, including previous stints as interim chief of staff, interim district athletics and activities director, and interim principal. He has also served as a principal for Louisville Male, Ballard, and Waggener High Schools, and as an adjunct professor of educational leadership at several Kentucky universities.
"I am honored to step into this role and support JCPS during this transition," said Jury. "My focus will be on providing stability for our schools, supporting our principals, and ensuring our educators have the tools they need to keep student learning moving forward."
In this role, Jury will work closely with JCPS regional superintendents to strengthen instructional leadership and ensure continued progress toward the district's academic priorities.
"Dr. Jury brings an extraordinary depth of experience, sound judgment, and an unwavering commitment to students," said Superintendent Dr. Brian Yearwood. "His steady leadership and deep understanding of teaching, learning, and school operations make him the right person to guide our Academics Division during this transition."
JCPS has begun a comprehensive national search for a permanent CAO. Until that appointment is made, Jury will provide leadership, continuity, and support to the district's Academics Division.
