The Jefferson County Board of Education is proposing a general fund tax levy of 70.3 cents on real property and 70.3 cents on personal property.

The General Fund tax levied in fiscal year 2026 was 71.7 cents on real property and 73.5 cents on personal property and produced revenue of $756,453,342.69. The proposed General Fund tax rate of 70.3 cents on real property and 70.3 cents on personal property is expected to produce $833,122,237. Of this amount, $95,568,818 is from new and personal property. Based on historical collection rates and delinquent collections, the recommended tax rates are expected to produce a revenue of $791,632,659. Of this amount, $55,414,286, will be allocated to the Building Fund for capital projects and debt payment on bond issues. The compensating tax for 2027 is 67.6 cents on real property and 67.6 cents on personal property and is expected to produce $801,124,655.42.

The proposed tax rate is expected to generate more revenue than received in the preceding year. The general areas to which the revenue of $35,179,316 above 2026 revenue is to be allocated are as follows: Cost of collections (1.5%) $527,690; building fund (7.0%), $2,462,552; instruction (74.1%), $26,073,150.05; operations and transportation (9.2%), $3,218,907, and maintenance of plant (8.2), $2,897,017.
