Chenoweth Elementary School has officially announced Erin Basham as its new principal effective September 28.
An experienced education leader with 23 years of experience, Basham steps into the role after serving more than four years as an assistant principal at Waller Williams Environmental School.
"I am honored and excited to serve as the next leader of Chenoweth," Basham said. "I look forward to partnering with the amazing Charger staff, families and community to ensure every child grows academically and socially."
Basham began her educational career in 2003 as an Exceptional Child Education (ECE) teacher at Conway Middle School and has taught at multiple other schools throughout her career. She also worked as an ECE consulting teacher, ECE resource teacher, and an educational recovery leader with the Kentucky Department of Education.
"Erin is a thoughtful, student-centered leader who believes deeply in the power of relationships, collaboration and continuous growth,” said Dr. Tracy Barber, regional assistant superintendent of region two elementary schools. “Her commitment to listening and learning alongside the Chenoweth community will position her well to build on the school’s strengths and ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive."
Basham holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Learning/Behavior Disorders from Bellarmine University, a Master of Science in Elementary Education from Indiana University Southeast and a Specialist Degree in Instructional Leadership from University of the Cumberlands.
In her application materials, Basham described herself as a transformational leader who believes deeply in the power of trusting relationships with students and staff and collaborative approaches to developing new systems and initiatives.
“I will ensure all students receive high quality core instruction as well as targeted instruction for students who have not yet mastered grade level standards,” Basham said. “I am committed to the district’s purpose of “Every Student. Every Year.”
