India Collins has been named the new principal of the George Unseld Early Childhood Learning Center, effective October 12.

Collins has worked as the school’s counselor since 2021 and said she is excited to continue serving the students, families, staff and community that she cares so deeply about with a focus on continued excellence.

“I am truly honored and excited to serve as the next Principal of George Unseld Preschool,” she said. “I look forward to continuing to partner with our dedicated staff and families to build on the strong foundation already in place, with a shared commitment to ensuring every child leaves us kindergarten-ready.”

Collins began her career in education as a permanent sub in Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) in 2014. She earned her teaching certificate through the JCPS ACES Teacher program in 2015-16 at Rangeland Elementary School and continued working there as a teacher until moving to George Unseld in 2021.

“India Collins is a dedicated, student-centered leader who brings a strong understanding of preschool, a deep connection to the George Unseld Early Learning community and a clear commitment to improving outcomes for children,” Gibson said. “Throughout her career, she has demonstrated the ability to build strong relationships, support staff, strengthen schoolwide systems, and keep the needs of students and families at the center of the work. Her leadership reflects the values of collaboration, continuous improvement, inclusive practices and kindergarten readiness.”

Collins earned an Education Specialist degree and Principal Certification from Eastern Kentucky University, a master’s degree in Education (School Counseling) from Spalding University and a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Kentucky.

Exceptional schools are built on strong relationships, and Collins looks forward to partnering with students, staff and families to remove barriers and create opportunities for every child to thrive, she said.

“Together, we will create meaningful learning experiences, remove barriers and provide the individualized support each child needs to grow academically, socially and emotionally—building a strong foundation for kindergarten and future success,” she said.
